Days after the leader of Zimbabwe was placed under home arrest by the country's military, he has agreed with the country's military to step down. No additional details have been released.
The Zimbabwean state TV reported, as cited by AFP, that Mugabe will make a televised address later in the day.
The development comes hours after the country's ruling party, the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF), replaced Mugabe with ex-state security chief Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party's leader. The ZANU–PF also said Mnangagwa will represent the party in the 2018 presidential election.

Mugabe has also been given until Monday to resign as president.
The political situation in Zimbabwe has been tense recently as the Zimbabwean armed forces put Mugabe, who has been in power in Zimbabwe for 37 years, in custody. The military entered Harare on armored vehicles, blocked access to the government building and seized the television center.
