The US forces continue to conduct airstrikes in the war-torn Somalia.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US forces have announced that they had conducted an airstrike in Somalia on Tuesday in support of the government of Somalia against the al-Shabab terrorist group, killing several militants.

The airstrike targeted al-Shabab around 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of Mogadishu.

In recent years, al-Shabaab, a group that is linked with al-Qaeda, has been carrying deadly attacks against both military and civilian targets in the African state and even into neighboring Kenya.

Last month, al-Shabaab conducted deadliest terror attack in Somalia since the group launched its insurgency in 2007, killed 276 and injuring more than 300 people.
