Three Russian Sailors Captured by Pirates in Gulf of Guinea Released

In late November, pirates attacked the Panama-flagged Saronic Breeze vessel heading for Nigeria in Benin’s territorial waters and captured three Russian sailors.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian sailors, taken hostage by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea in November, have been released, the Russian embassy in Nigeria said in a statement.

"Late on December 20, Russian sailors, kidnapped by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea, were released," the embassy posted on its Twitter account.

The diplomats appreciated the efforts of all the parties who facilitated liberation of the Russian sailors, according to the statement.

On November 27, pirates attacked the Panama-flagged Saronic Breeze vessel heading for Nigeria in Benin’s territorial waters and captured three Russian sailors.
