"The U.S. Diplomatic Mission to South Africa informs U.S. citizens that the U.S. Government has received information that terrorist groups are planning to carry out near-term attacks against places where U.S. citizens congregate in South Africa, such as upscale shopping areas and malls in Johannesburg and Cape Town," the message said.
Countries across the globe have been boosting their security measures following a series of terrorist attacks, including the downing of a Russian airliner in the Sinai Peninsula on October 31, 2015, attacks on Beirut on November 12, 2015, on Paris on November 13, 2015 and on Brussels on March 22. Militants affiliated with the notorious Daesh group, outlawed in Russia and the United States among others, claimed responsibility for all these violent attacks.
The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which this year runs from June 6 to July 5, Ramadan, is marked by fasting during the daytime and is considered a time for spiritual reflection and increased devotion.
