At Least 17 Killed, 29 Injured in Tribal Clashes in Sudan

Some 17 people were killed and 29 were injured in clashes between two tribes in the Sudanese southwestern state of South Darfur, local media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Sudanese security authorities have sent military reinforcement to the South Darfur ahead of further deployment in the area to prevent hostilities, the newspaper said, citing an official source.

"Clashes have renewed between the two tribes after Rizeigat herders encroached into farms of the Misseriya killing 17 people and injuring 29 from both sides," the Sudan Tribune newspaper said.

Rizeigat and Misseriya tribes have been fighting for pasturer in East and South Darfur during the past three years, the clashes claimed hundreds of lives on both sides.
