CAIRO (Sputnik) – On Tuesday, a suicide bomber blew up a car near a hotel in Arish where judges following the results of the parliamentary elections in the country were staying. The militant group Sinai Province, loyal to the Islamic State (ISIL) extremist group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to Al Manar TV Channel, citing local health ministry sources, four police officers, two Egyptian judges and one passer-by were killed in the attack.
The Sinai Province, which declared its affiliation with ISIL in November 2014, is notorious mostly for targeting military and security forces in the region. Recently, the group has expanded its operations outside Sinai, notably in Egypt's Western Desert, an area popular in the tourist industry.
