According to reports, a car bomb exploded outside the Italian consulate in the center of Cairo on Saturday morning, causing major damage to the building.

A powerful bomb blast in the center of Cairo on Saturday morning caused major damage to the Italian Consulate, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported. 

No organization has as yet claimed responsibility for the explosion, which Egyptian security officials said was caused by a car bomb. 

A person was injured in a blast that hit Italian consulate in the center of the Egyptian capital Cairo early on Saturday, local media reported.

The explosive device was planted in a vehicle parked just near the consulate, Al Youm Al Sabea newspaper said. Five people were injured in a blast that hit Italian consulate in the center of the Egyptian capital Cairo early on Saturday, local media reported.

A vehicle parked just near the consulate blasted after an explosive device was thrown at the car from a nearby bridge, Al Youm Al Sabea newspaper said, citing a source in the law enforcement.

No victims have yet been reported, according to the news outlet.

The explosion reportedly destroyed the front part of the consulate building.

No one has yet taken responsibility for the attack.
