MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Olukolade, one soldier died in the operation, having encountered a landmine, while two were wounded.
The operation continues, Olukolade said, with the Nigerian air force maintaining surveillance of militants' movement.
"The Dure camp which is one of the most prominent camps in the forest witnessed the fiercest battle as the Special Forces descended heavily on it before it finally fell," the DHQ spokesman, Chris Olukolade, said, as quoted by the Premium Times.
Sambisa forest is considered to be a major Boko Haram enclave.
Boko Haram initiated military operations in Nigeria in 2009, to impose Islamic rule in the country. The militant group, notorious for mass killings and kidnappings, currently operates on the border of four Western African countries: Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
