MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia has opened a criminal investigation into abduction of two Russian citizens in Sudan, a spokesman for the investigative Committee said Wednesday.
"The case has been opened under the Russian Criminal Code "in connection with pre-planned abduction of two or more people by a group of individuals with the use of violence threatening life or health and with the use of weapons or items that are used as weapons," Vladimir Markin told reporters in Moscow.
A manager and a technician of the Russian airline UTair, who were contracted by the African Union-UN peacekeeping mission (UNAMID) in western Sudan, were taken hostage by a group of unidentified assailants in Sudan's Darfur region on January 29.
