South Sudan Struggles to Find Peace

Subscribe
South Sudan continues to experience a political mess.

The president of South Sudan does not want to share power with a leader of rebel groups who most likely will become a vice president when a unity government is established.

The world’s newest country has seen fighting since December 2013, as government forces led by President Salva Kiir have been sporadically fighting rebel groups loyal to former Vice President Riek Machar.

Another round of peace talks will take place in Ethiopia later this month. The two sides have already signed a series of peace agreements; however none of them resulted in actual peace. Just this week, rebel groups launched a series of attacks on government troops.
