Libya’s oil infrastructure was dealt another blow on Saturday after a bomb exploded at a pipeline carrying crude from the Sarir oilfield, the largest in the country, to the port of Hariga. Firefighters are still battling the fire.
Repair work at the pipeline could take up to three days, said a spokesman for the National Oil Corporation that operates Sarir.
Libya is torn asunder by various militant groups in the worst wave of violence since the 2011 uprising that overthrew Muammar Gaddafi, the country's long-standing leader. Moreover, two de-facto governments are operating in the country.
As a result, oil production has fallen from approximately 1.6 barrels a day before the 2011 uprising to 350,000.
