Boko Haram Continues Assault on Niger, Promises to Defeat Coalition

Boko Haram's assault on the border town of Diffa in Niger was repelled once again by the country's army, while Niger's lawmakers prepare to vote on committing troops against Boko Haram and the group's leader releases a video promising to defeat them.

Boko Haram fighters launched an attack on a prison in Diffa, a Niger town on the border with Nigeria, before being repelled by Niger's army on Monday, AFP reports.

"The attack was repelled. Clean-up operations have been under way since this morning," a soldier participating in the operation told Reuters. According to AFP, soldiers have now surrounded the town.

Monday's attack, the third in four days, comes as legislators in Niger are set to ratify an agreement which would allow the country to participate in the multinational offensive against Boko Haram.

Also on Monday, Boko Haram released a video in which its leader promised to defeat the multinational force.
