The mass-casualty shooting comes less than two weeks after US President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan gun safety bill into law, which he dubbed the most important legislation in decades.
A gunman fired a barrage of bullets at a July 4 Independence Day parade in downtown Highland Park, Illinois on Monday, killing six marchers and wounding 24 others.
A suspect in the parade shooting, identified as Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, 22, has been arrested by the police.
On Monday, the Gun Violence Archive said that at least 11 mass shootings have occurred across the United States since Friday night, leaving a dozen people killed and scores injured.
