Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev was doused with red liquid while trying to lay a wreath at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw.
The Polish foreign ministry "realises the seriousness of the situation" with the attack on Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreev in Warsaw, a spokesman for the ministry, Lukasz Jasina, said on Monday.
"We are aware of the seriousness of the situation, we are monitoring it," Jasina told reporters.
Polish foreign minister dubs attack on Russia’s ambassador "regrettable" incident.
“The event that took place today during the laying of a wreath by the Russian ambassador at the graves of fallen Soviet soldiers is an incident that should not have happened, an incident that is regrettable on all sides," the RAP news agency quoted Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau - who at present is in Iran - as saying.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev arrived at the memorial cemetery of Soviet soldiers in the Polish capital, accompanied by diplomats and his wife.
However, people who had gathered in advance on the territory of the cemetery blocked his path, shouting insulting slogans. They began to pour red substance on the ambassador and the people accompanying him.

The ambassador could not lay a wreath at the cemetery, as he left the place, accompanied by the local police, after the attack.
Later, he explained that he was attacked with sweet red syrup at the wreath-laying ceremony.
In turn, the Russian foreign ministry expressed on Monday a strong protest to Warsaw in connection with the attack on the Russian ambassador and demanded that Poland take appropriate measures.
On 6 May, someone threw an improvised explosive device into the window of one of the apartments housing Russian journalists in Berlin. German sappers who were asked to the scene confirmed it to be an improvised explosive device and deactivated it on the spot.
The Russian side said that it could have been a terrorist attack against Russian journalists and their families.
