US President Joe Biden said on Friday said he approved additional security assistance for Ukraine that will include artillery munitions, radar, and other equipment. Since the start of the special operation, Washington has committed over $3.4 billion in security aid to Ukraine.
Last week, Biden asked Congress for another $33 billion in aid for Kiev, $20 billion of which would be allocated to security assistance.
Russia has said that the US and NATO should stop pumping Kiev regime with weapons if they actually seek to bring the conflict to an end. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has previously warned that the arms could also fall into the wrong hands.
On Sunday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said a hangar with weapons and ammunition delivered to Ukraine from the United States and Europe was destroyed at a military airfield near the Ukrainian city of Odessa by Russian high-precision Oniks missiles.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine in February, amid intensifying attacks of Kiev's troops against the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR). President Putin stressed that the op was started to stop the eight-year-long war in Donbass, noting that Russia's goal is "demilitarization and denazification".

Blinken Accuses Russia of Misinterpreting History to Justify Special Operation in Ukraine
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is allegedly trying to use history to make a case for Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.
"As war again rages in Europe, we must increase our resolve to resist those who now seek to manipulate historical memory in order to advance their own ambitions," Blinken said in a statement for the 77th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany.
"President Putin tries to twist history to attempt to justify his unprovoked and brutal war against Ukraine," Blinken said.
The revision of history, and specifically of World War 2, has typically been an accusation addressed by Russia against the United States and its allies.

Croatia Confirms Detention of National by Russian Forces in Mariupol - Media
BELGRADE (Sputnik) - The Croatian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that a Croatian citizen has been detained by Russian forces in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, Croatian public broadcaster HRT reported on Saturday.

In April, Croatian media reported that at least four Croatian volunteers were among the militants of the Ukrainian right-wing extremist Azov battalion trapped in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol.

The Croatian foreign ministry has confirmed the detention of one Croatian national who was reported to have tried to leave the city with several other militants, but it refrained from disclosing any further details due to the delicate nature of the situation, the broadcaster said.

The ministry was cited as saying that it will work with the Ukrainian authorities to try resolve the issue.

Mariupol went under the control of Russian forces in April, with the remainder of Azov militants holed up in a local steel plant. After Ukrainian claims that there were civilians at the Azovstal plant as well, the Russian military said it would guarantee safe evacuation to civilians, if any, and all those ready to surrender during regular UN-facilitated humanitarian pauses.

Ukrainian Ambassador Slams Ban on Ukrainian Flags at WW2 Remembrance Events in Berlin
BERLIN (Sputnik) - Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andrij Melnyk criticized on Saturday the police's decision to ban the Ukrainian flag at upcoming World War 2 commemoration events in Berlin, calling the move a "slap in the face" to Ukrainians.
On Friday, the Berlin police announced the prohibition on showing Russian and Ukrainian flags at the memorial sites on May 8 and 9. The police also banned St. George ribbons, images of "V" and "Z" letters, military uniforms and songs. An exception will be made for diplomatic delegations and veterans.
"We are shocked that the Berlin police have banned carrying Ukraine-related flags on May 8 and 9. This is a slap in the face to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people," Melnyk told German news agency RND.
Meanwhile, the German capital's authorities said that the rules apply to 15 memorial sites and that the Ukrainian flag will still be allowed in the city.

The authorities also confirmed that the Berlin police will make sure there is no "public approval of the offensive war against Ukraine" at pro-Russian events outside of the memorial sites.

NATO Chief Says Russia's Nuclear Forces Show No Sign of Enhanced Readiness
BERLIN (Sputnik) - There are no indications that Russia put its nuclear forces on high alert despite "reckless" rhetoric, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told German media on Saturday.
"No, we have no indication of it," Stoltenberg told Die Welt newspaper when asked if Russian nuclear forces seem switched to a higher level of readiness.
The Secretary General noted that NATO has not seen any changes in Russia's nuclear strategy since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, nevertheless blaming Moscow for adopting abrasive discourse on nuclear weapons.

"We hear the threatening nuclear rhetoric of the Russian leadership. This is irresponsible and reckless. A nuclear war cannot be won, and it should never be fought; the same applies to Russia," Stoltenberg said.

DPR Official: Senior Officers From US, France and Britain Could be Stranded Among Ukrainian Radicals at Azovstal
According to Yan Gagin, advisor to the head of the DPR, foreign instructors are stuck with the neo-Nazi militants in Mariupol, encircled by Russian and Donbass forces.

"In any case, I can confirm the presence of senior officers of foreign states, primarily European states. Azov fighters stated it themselves, as well as those who were taken prisoner, those who surrendered and and civilians, who came out of there. Meaning, we can figure this out from their words. In addition, this is indirectly proved by attempts to release the radicals at Azovstal, and by attempts to reach an agreement - in particular, frequent calls and requests from [French] president Macron", he noted.
