Powerful storms hit the country over the weekend, becoming one of the largest spells of tornadoes in US history. The estimated death toll in Kentucky alone reached 80, with at least eight deceased after a candle factory collapsed in the city of Mayfield. A federal emergency was declared in the state to cope with the catastrophe.
Satellite photos have revealed just how powerful the tornadoes were: the pictures show collapsed buildings, wrecked homes, and damaged land in the areas where the storms hit the hardest. Even from space, the chaos and devastation can easily be seen.
