The 70th Miss Universe beauty pageant will be held in Eilat, Israel, on 12 December.
Israel has welcomed the participants of the Miss Universe-2021 contest, although the coronavirus pandemic shows no signs of abating and, on the contrary, is again topping the headlines as a new variant of the virus, dubbed Omicron, continues the worldwide pandemic.
Last week, the organisers of the pageant said that one of the contestants had tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival in Israel and was taken to a government-run isolation hotel. Like all the contestants, she was fully vaccinated and tested prior to her departure from her home country. The organisers did not identify the contestant.
Amid reports of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19, Israel recently banned the entry of all foreigners, excluding those slated to participate in the widely-promoted beauty contest.
