Police reportedly arrived on the scene in the afternoon, after locals posted on social media about gunshots fired/sheltering in place.
Southpoint Mall in Durham, North Carolina, has been put on lockdown due to shots fired on the premises, local reporters shared via Twitter on Friday.
Three people were wounded by the gunfire inside, CBS 17 reported citing Durham city councilman Mark-Anthony Middleton. The report added that the police have detained a suspect in the shooting.
A Durham Police Department spokesperson confirmed to Sputnik earlier in the day that they were responding to a shooting incident at the mall.
According to footage shared online, shoppers were escorted out of the mall by police officers. The mall is reportedly closed down for the rest of Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days in the US.
Other videos shared online showed shoppers running and screaming in panic.
