And Then There Were Four: Girl-Band T-ara Stages Comeback With New Album

One of the most popular K-pop girl bands has reappeared after several years away from their fans, sparking worries among supporters that they might have split altogether. In fact, as their latest release shows, they've simply undergone a bit of a makeover before a reboot.

The veteran K-pop girl group T-ara has been wowing their audience ever since they were founded in 2009 by MBK Entertainment and debuted as a seven-member band. And they haven't lost their gift to delight, as has been proven by the reaction given to the music video for "Tiki Taka" - the lead single in their new album "Re:T-ara" - when it was launched on the media channel Dingo on 15 November.

The group has finally returned to fans with new music following 2017's release of the mini album "What's My Name?". Members Jiyeon, Hyomin, Eunjung, and Qri released "Re:T-ara" after four years of hiatus.

The group experienced a spot of bother in February 2017, when the twin sisters Hwayoung and Hyoyoung made allegations of being bullied by fellow band members and later left the group. In March, MBK Entertainment announced that the group would release their final album in May 2017, subsequently postponing the release of the album until June.

By that time, Soyeon and Boram had also left the band, leaving just the quartet of Jiyeon, Hyomin, Eunjung, and Qri, who still remain. T-ara released the album "What's My Name?" on 14 June 2017, making it their ninth and, seemingly last, release, as on 3 January 2018, Hyomin announced that she and her fellow T-arans would not be renewing their contract with MBK Entertainment.

However, on 2 October 2020, the group held a reunion performance and in July 2021, they appeared on JTBC's "Ask Us Anything", when they announced their intention to return to the stage.

Thus, T-ara has found their voice again with the album "Re:T-ara", which consists of two singles: the lead song "Tiki Taka", telling a story of toxic love, and "All Kill". The group collaborated with Dingo on the release and the songs were choreographed by "Street Woman Fighter" dance crew La Chica.

Fans of these K-pop geniuses, who have made such an indelible impression on South Korea's cultural scene, are so delighted by the comeback that they have shed tears of pure joy to see their beloved idols on stage again.
