The actor fired a gun during the shooting of the western 'Rust', fatally wounding cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and injuring director Joel Souza. Preliminary reports suggest that the actor was led to believe the gun was "cold", meaning it was not supposed to be loaded with live ammunition.
Alec Baldwin's gun fired a "live lead projectile" during the incident on the set of 'Rust' earlier this month, the Santa Fe county sheriff has stated. New Mexico authorities added that they managed to recover the bullet, which had been fired from the actor's gun, from the shoulder of the film's director, Joel Souza, who was injured during the incident.
The sheriff said more live rounds had been found on the film set. Police seized two more guns from the movie set: a single-action revolver, which might have been modified, and a plastic prop revolver.
The movie set's armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has stated that she checked Baldwin's gun ahead of the incident and that it did not contain "hot" rounds. She noted, however, that the ammunition on the set had not been "secured" during the lunch break ahead of the shooting.

Alec Baldwin Was 'Drawing Gun and Pointing It on Camera' Moments Before Deadly Shooting
County sheriff Adan Mendoza noted that the investigation must still determine how the live round ended up in Baldwin's gun. The police determined that at least two people had inspected the gun in question ahead of the incident: armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and the movie's assistant director, Dave Halls. He stressed that it was too early to comment on any charges related to the shooting for the moment.
Sheriff Mendoza thus echoed the statement of District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, who said it was too early to judge what happened at the scene since it is not yet clear whether the shooting was an act of negligence and, if so, by whom. The DA, however, noted that all options were on the table and did not rule out charging Baldwin.

Nicolas Cage Reportedly Complained About Armourer Who Worked on Rust With Alec Baldwin
The investigation was launched after Alec Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and wounded director Joel Souza during a rehearsal on the set for the film 'Rust'. Souza reportedly said in his police statement that Baldwin was practising drawing a revolver, when it went off. Another sworn affidavit said that the actor was handed a gun by assistant director, Dave Halls, who declared it to be a "cold gun", meaning it was safe to use.
Another person of interest for the investigators is the set armourer - Hannah Gutierrez-Reed – whose job it was to monitor the guns and ammunition, and specifically to prevent any live rounds from appearing on the set, since they could be confused with dummy rounds or blanks. There have been several reports that her work in the past has attracted complaints and that some of her former colleagues have found her to be "inexperienced and green".
