At present, almost 60% of the South Korean population is fully vaccinated.
More than 30 million of South Korea's 51.78 million residents were vaccinated as of October 10th, Yonhap News reports, citing actual data from the KDCA (Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency).
As the KDCA shared in their report, approximately 59.1% of the total population has been fully vaccinated since the inoculation programme was launched in February of this year.
In terms of vaccination rates by age group, those in their 70s are in the highest category (91%) followed by individuals in their 60s (90.7%) and 50s (90.2%). Excluding people over 80 years old (80.7% inoculated), the overall vaccination rate for those aged 50 or older exceeds 90%.
The pace of vaccination is also slowly rising among younger people (18-49 years old), with most receiving a second dose of a vaccine. Nearly 7 out of 10 adults have been vaccinated.
The government's goal of reaching herd immunity is closing in as it previously announced that after vaccinating 70% of the population by the end of October, it would start the ball rolling on a "living with COVID-19" plan in early November.
