According to Johns Hopkins University, the global death toll from the coronavirus has topped 4.49 million, while over 215 million cases of the virus have been confirmed worldwide.
The United States has the highest death toll and overall coronavirus tally, with 637,244 fatalities and 36.7 million infected. It is followed by India (more than 32.6 million cases, 437,370 deaths) and Brazil (20.7 million cases and a death toll of 579,010).
Meanwhile, a wave of protests against coronavirus restrictions, mandatory vaccination, and vaccine passports swept through France, Germany, and the UK. Around 80 people were detained during an unauthorised march in Berlin, while 13 law enforcement officers were injured during protests against COVID-19 health passes in the French city of Marseille.

Ukraine received over 188,000 Pfizer vaccine doses from the United States as part of the COVAX initiative, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday.

"Ukraine received over 188,000 Pfizer vaccine doses from the government of the United States under the COVAX program, which was delivered by UNICEF," the statement said on the Ukrainian ministry's website.

The new batch of vaccines will be used in mass vaccination centres.

The vaccination campaign in Ukraine began on 24 February. So far, over 8.8 million doses were given and 3.54 million people have been fully vaccinated, which amounts to 8% of the country's population.

Russia registered 19,286 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, down from 19,509 the day before, taking the overall tally to 6,882,827, the federal response centre said on Sunday.

"Over the past day, 19,286 COVID-19 cases were confirmed across 85 Russian regions, including 1,324 cases (6.9%) without clinical symptoms," the centre said, adding that the rate of increase stands at 0.28%.

Moscow has the highest number of new cases with 1,444 daily infections, down from 1,509 the day before. The Russian capital was followed by St. Petersburg with 1,318 cases, down from 1,395, and the Moscow region with 914 cases, up from 786.

The response centre reported 797 new deaths linked to the coronavirus, down from 798 the day before, raising the country's death toll to 181,637.

In the same 24 hours, 16,804 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals across the country, down from 19,217 the day before, bringing the total to 6,148,250.

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has extended the ban on international passenger flights to and from country, previously scheduled to end on August 31, until September 30.

"In partial modification of circular dated 26-06-2020, the competent authority has further extended the validity of circular issued on the subject cited above regarding Scheduled International commercial passenger services to/from India till 2359 hrs IST of 30 September, 2021," the statement said.

Special cargo flights and intenrational flights specifically approved by the DGCA "air bubble" will not be affected.

International and domestic flights have been banned in India since March 23, 2020 as a means to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Since July 2020, DGCA allowed India to form an "air bubble" arrangement with 25 countries that allows for international flights.

Singapur has inoculated 80% of its population with two COVID-19 vaccine doses, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said on Sunday.

"We have crossed another milestone, where 80% of our population has received their full regimen of two doses," the official said on Facebook.

The minister also praised the city-state's home vaccination effort, saying that more than 4,300 homebound people have received their shots from the home vaccination teams.

"Every week, we continue to receive about 700 requests for home vaccinations. To meet the demand, and thanks to over 200 volunteer doctors and nurses, and also the assistance of SAF [Singapore Armed Forces], we are tripling the number of home vaccination teams from 11 to 33 teams," Ong added.

Singapore started its vaccination drive on 30 December and is using Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
