'Motherly Love': Mummy Rat Saves Babies from Flooded Burrow

New Delhi (Sputnik): It is said that a mother's love is unbeatable and this leads to a matchless sense of preservation for her young as she goes to any lengths to protect them. Certainly it's something you see in lionesses, bears and humans. But apparently this maternal instinct is shared even by mammals which are as small as mice.

In a video going viral on social media, a mother rat can be seen trying to save her little ones from a burrow filled with water.

The mother repeatedly keeps entering the water-logged burrow to save the baby rats - correctly known as pups, pinkies or kittens - from drowning. Carrying them in her mouth, she brings them out of the water-filled hole one by one and puts them in a safer place. She only relaxes after every one of her family is saved. ​
