Live Updates: India Registers Record-High of 145,384 New COVID-19 Cases

The global coronavirus tally is now over 134 million cases, with the number of fatalities reaching 2.9 million, according to Baltimore, Maryland's Johns Hopkins University.

The US tops the list of countries hit by the pandemic with around 31 million cases of COVID-19 and at least 561,000 deaths. It is followed by Brazil with around 13.3 million infected and over 348,000 deaths.

India has the third-highest number of COVID-19 infections (13 million cases and almost 167,000 deaths), while Mexico has the third-highest death toll in the world - over 207,000 fatalities, with around 2.2 million infected.

BERLIN (Sputnik) - EU nations diverge in their views on the purchase of Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V, European Council President Charles Michel told Handelsblatt.

In an interview with the German newspaper, Michel noted that EU leaders have been under immense pressure, as people are losing patience while awaiting an opportunity to get vaccinated. When it comes to Sputnik V, member states have differences and varying degrees of sensitivity over its possible purchase, according to the top EU official.

On Friday nearly 60,000 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the state.
