Russian Fighter MiG-31 Intercepts US Spy Plane Over Bering Sea, Defense Ministry Says
14:32 GMT 11.12.2020 (Updated: 08:51 GMT 15.11.2022) MOSCOW, (Sputnik) - Russia's MiG-31 intercepted US RC-135 reconnaissance plane over the Bering Sea, the national defense control center said Friday.
According to the center, MiG-31 escorted the US plane until it was far enough away from the Russian border.
Earlier in October, MiG-31 and Su-35 escorted two Rockwell B-1 Lancer bombers.
NATO aircraft have intensified reconnaissance activities near the Russian border over the past months. Moscow has warned that such regular flights by US and NATO aircraft near Russia's border poses the risk of accidental escalation.
