Earlier this week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the situation regarding COVID-19’s spread in the country with the heads of Germany’s regions. Although the sides did not reach a consensus on a possible tightening of measures, they adopted stricter recommendations for citizens to limit contact.

Sputnik is live from Germany, where coronavirus sceptics are gathering on Wednesday outside the Bundesrat, the upper house of the German parliament, as changes to the country's "Protection Against Infection Act" are being discussed.

The bill adds a new paragraph that includes contact restrictions in private and public spaces, an obligation to wear a mouth and nose cover, travel restrictions, as well as business and commercial closures. A counter-protest is also expected to take place.
