South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham said President Trump's first term had caused a "red wave" that won the Republicans a raft of state legislature seats and sheriff's offices from the Democratic Party in his state.

US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has urged President Donald Trump to stand again in 2024 if Democrat Joe Biden is declared the winner of this year's election.

The South Carolina senator told Fox News Radio's Brian Kilmeade Show that Trump should keep the populist current he started moving even if his legal challenges to alleged ballot fraud in several key states "falls short" of returning him to the White House.

“I would encourage President Trump if, after all this, he does fall short,” Graham said. “We just can’t quite get there to not let this movement die, to consider running again, to create an organization, platforms over the next four years. To keep this movement alive, growing the Republican representation in minority communities.”

Trump has so far won an unprecedented 71 million votes in this election, topping his 2016 total by 8 million and Barack Obama's 68.5 million in 2008. Biden has so far been awarded 76.7 million votes, although Trump and his campaign team claims hundreds of thousands of those could be fraudulent.

Graham Warns There May Never Be Another Republican US President if Election System Not Changed
Graham, who won re-election to the Senate, said Trump should “talk about economic populism and just, basically, keep it alive, and keep fighting for the 2020 vote.”

“And run again?” Kilmeade asked? “I would encourage him to think about doing it. I really would,” Graham replied.

Graham credited Trump with a "red wave" that won the Republicans a number of state legislature seats and other official positions from the Democrats.
