After most major news networks called the presidential election in Democratic candidate Joe Biden's favour, mass celebrations erupted across the US. Official tally results, however, have yet to be announced.

Seattle Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man in the early morning of 8 November at 10th Avenue East and East Pike Street, Seattle, according to an official statement.

The shooting took place near the Capital Hill Organised Protest (CHOP) zone, an infamous area set up after the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, during a celebration for Joe Biden's potential victory in the presidential elections.

According to police, the victim was "transported to Harborview Medical Center but later succumbed to his injuries".

A handgun was reportedly found near the crime scene and taken to the police. However, no suspect in the killing has been identified.

On 8 November, people in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, Portland, and other cities throughout the US, took to the streets celebrating reports of a Biden victory with dancing, champagne, and fireworks. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden Biden is widely touted at the winner of the election, but no official results have been announced as vote counting continues in battleground states like Georgia and Pennsylvania, where Biden leads.

The so-called CHOP zone in Seattle was established by anti-police demonstrators amid ongoing protests against racial inequality triggered by the death of George Floyd, an African American man, in police custody in Minneapolis on 25 May. Local activists have claimed that the CHOP area does not come under the authority of law enforcement officers.

On 1 July, the police, following an order by the city's mayor, cleared the area, detaining dozens of protesters, some of whom were armed.
