Trump's contender Joe Biden has taken the lead over the US President in a number of states, despite the latter's initial successes. The latest state to see Biden overtake Trump was Michigan where the former vice president leads his rival by 0.3 percentage points.

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that it was "strange" several key states governed by the Democrats, flipped to blue after solid Republican victories had been forecast only a day earlier.

Soon after Trump tweeted his incredulity about Biden's lead, the social network labelled his post 'disputed' and potentially 'misleading'.

Democratic Candidate on Track to Win 2020 Election, Campaign Believes

The Biden campaign, meanwhile, has said their candidate could be declared winner of the presidential race if the vote count were to stop now.

"I want to share with all of you that Joe Biden is on track to win this election, and he will be the next president of the United States," the campaign manager Jennifer O'Malley Dillon said during a briefing.

Dillon has claimed that Biden had already won Wisconsin and looks sure to win Nevada. She also projected Biden to claim more votes in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania than Trump did in 2016.

The Democratic candidate may also have a chance of overturning Trump's current lead in Georgia and North Carolina, O'Malley Dillon stated.

US Election Live Updates: Supreme Court Orders PA to Segregate Ballots Arrived After Election Day

The campaign adviser Bob Bauer, in turn, responded to Trump's threat that the US election result would be settled in the Supreme Court. Bauer stressed he was confident that such attempts would suffer defeat, adding that Biden's team was fully prepared to fight a legal challenge to the election in any US court, should it come to that.

In a parallel statement, Trump's campaign manager Bill Stepien said the US president will win as soon as all legal ballots are counted.

Biden took the lead over his opponent in a number of states, including Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota where polls previously projected a Trump win. The Americans have cast their ballots in the election and the country is now engaged in counting votes which so far has given little indication about who will win the race. Nevertheless, Joe Biden is at present ahead of the US President enjoying 44.24% of votes against 39.59% for Trump.
