The UK government has intensified anti-coronavirus measures in England amid a steady growth of daily COVID-19 cases, that exceed the numbers recorded in spring. Fatalities, conversely, remain low compared to the data for March-May.

Sputnik is live from London's Hyde Park where protesters gathered to voice their opposition to the curbs on public life imposed by the UK government in order to manage the coronavirus situation in England.

In late September, London introduced a set of measures to contain the spread of the infection which included a ban on gatherings of more than six people, early closure of restaurants and pubs and obligatory mask-wearing in bars.

As of Friday, the total number of the coronavirus cases in the UK stands at 561,819, according to the WHO, whereas the death count is 42,592.
