UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in remarks to the UN General Assembly that his country is committed to finding a compromise solution on Kosovo.

"The Republic of Serbia remains committed to finding compromise solution for the issue of Kosovo and to building a common future with politics of peace and cooperation," Vucic said on Wednesday.

Vucic emphasized that the recently US-brokered agreement on economic normalization between Serbia and Kosovo is a "big step" toward finding a solution.

In mid-September, US President Donald Trump hosted talks between the Serbian leader and Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti who signed the deal to normalize economic ties.

The only way to achieve a sustainable defeat of terrorism is to dry up its financing and combat corruption, Iraqi President Barham Salih said in his speech at the UN General Assembly.

"We hope that we will receive aid from all countries in the international community in order to locate funds and identify sources of corruption which lead to capital flight. And we hope that it will allow us to dry up the resources of financing which fund lawless organizations and extremism", Salih said in a video address.

He described corruption as a scourge that destroys the economy and hinders the will of people to achieve progress and prosperity.

The president went on to renew last year’s call for UN nations to launch an international coalition against corruption and for the recovery of the pillaged capital.

"We cannot eradicate terrorism if we do not dry up its financing. It is the only way to do it", he stressed.

The Iraqi leader also reiterated that he did not want his country to become an arena of conflict for other nations.

"We do not want Iraq to become a sort of playground for other forces which will kill themselves on our territory", Salih stated, citing attacks on the country’s sovereignty and independence.

Iraq, he went on, wants to be "a country in which all interests of all citizens can be protected", a country that can protect the region, develop the economy and effectively fight terrorism. The president also noted the importance of "effective support" from neighbouring nations.

We hope to receive from the UN technical assistance for this body which will guarantee fair elections, which will mean that we do not undermine the freedom of Iraqi citizens", the president said.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said in his first address at the 75th UN General Assembly on Wednesday that the international community needs to take a firm international stance on Iran to ensure a comprehensive solution to Tehran’s attempt to possess weapons of mass destruction.

"A comprehensive solution and a firm international position are needed to ensure fundamental solutions to the Iranian regime’s attempt to possess weapons of mass destruction or develop ballistic missile program aren’t its interference in the internal affairs of other countries as well as its sponsorship of terrorism", the Saudi King said.

Saudi Arabia’s experience with Iran has taught the country that partial solutions or appeasement will not stop its threats to international peace and security, the Saudi King added.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said in his address to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that he supports the US-led efforts to achieve reconciliation in the Middle East by securing peace accords between Israel and Arab states.

"We support the efforts of the current US administration to bring about peace in the Middle East by bringing both Palestinians and the Israelis together at the negotiating table to reach a fair and comprehensive agreement", the Saudi King said.

On 15 September, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain officially reconciled with Israel by signing US-brokered peace agreements at a ceremony in the White House.
