The situation does not pose a threat to the President Milos Zeman's life, according to presidential spokesman Jiri Ovcacek, who also outlined that Zeman is in contact with family and staff.

The president of the Czech Republic, Milos Zeman, was hospitalized with an arm injury on Tuesday, spokesman Jiri Ovcacek confirmed.

Zeman was transferred to the Central Hospital in Prague with a non-life-threatening injury to the arm, and is set to undergo surgery.

Ovcacek told reporters that the president "watched the news on TV in the evening, and at the end, when trying to get up, he did not use his cane or the help of the guards, he stumbled and broke his right arm".

"Mr. President was hospitalized at the Central Hospital in Prague tonight due to a hand injury. The president will undergo surgery on his injured arm. This is not a life-threatening situation, the President is in contact with his family and co-workers. The President's program will be adapted to convalescence", Ovcacek's tweet read.

Milos Zeman was elected in January 2013 for the first time, and was subsequently reelected for a second term in 2018.
