A 5.9-magnitude earthquake has occurred off the Tanzanian coast, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.
The quake took place about 77 kilometres (48 miles) southeast of Dar es Salaam at a depth of 10 kilometres (6 miles). There have been no immediate reports about damages or casualties caused by the earthquake.

Dar es Salaam, a major city and commercial port on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast, has a population of 2.7 million people.
In 2007, a 6.0-magnitude quake struck the Tanzanian town of Arusha, east of Bukoba.
