The day before, a convoy carrying supplies to a US base in southern Iraq was targeted by two roadside bombs, Turkish media reported, citing an Iraqi police captain.

The Iraqi military said in a statement on Friday that four Katyusha rockets have hit a military base used by US-led coalition troops south of Baghdad and caused some material damage but no casualties.

The base, Besmaya, is being used by Spanish troops as part of the coalitions' efforts in the fight against Daesh.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

On 12 July, an Iraqi security source stated that a supply convoy heading to a US military base in Iraq came under attack.

According to the security source, the trucks were carrying supplies from Basra to one of the US bases in Iraq.
