Italy was once the epicentre of the outbreak in Europe, but at the moment Rome is reporting decreasing numbers of new cases. The death toll in the UK, meanwhile, has surpassed the number of fatalities in Italy, which now occupies 6th place in the world in terms of infections.

Italy is opening its border with France in Ventimiglia on Wednesday, expecting visitors from the Schengen area, as the country lifts coronavirus restrictions. From now on, tourists will be allowed to enter Italy without undergoing mandatory self-isolation, unless they have tested positive for coronavirus, or have been in contact with an infected person.
