At the moment, Germany has confirmed 148,453 coronavirus cases (which is fifth place in the world after the US, Spain, Italy, and France), however, the country has managed to maintain a relatively low death rate, with around 5,000 fatalities (eighth place in the world).

In the live video, shops along Berlin's famous Kurfurstendamm reopen as the authorities ease some measures against the COVID-19 pandemic. Chancellor Angela Merkel announced last week that shops of up to 800 square metres (8,611 square feet) can reopen their doors after a four-week shutdown. The restrictions on movement in the country, however, have been extended until 3 May.
