The National Health Service reported on Tuesday that the COVID-19 death toll in English hospitals rose by 778 to 15,607 from 14,829 the previous day.
"24 of the 778 patients (aged between 49 and 91 years old) had no known underlying health condition," the health service said.
At the same time, health ministry data has shown that a total of 17,337 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died around the country, an increase of 828 on the figure published a day earlier.
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK has risen to 129,044.
