To Berlin! 75 Years After the Great Patriotic War's Final Major Offensive
On 16 April 1945, the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation began. After a preliminary powerful aviation and artillery bombardment, a decisive attack by the troops of the 1st Belorussian and 1st Ukrainian Fronts was launched along the Oder-Neisse Line.
The Soviet armies defeated 70 infantry, 23 tank and mechanized divisions of the enemy, and captured 480 000 people. As a result of the operation, the resistance of the armed forces of Nazi Germany was finally crushed.
More than 600 participants of the Berlin Operation were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
