The number of coronavirus cases in Iran is approaching 80,000, while the death toll is creeping closer to 5,000, Alireza Vahabzadeh, an adviser to the country's health minister, said on Friday.

Live from Tehran as part of the capital’s Grand Bazaar reopens following the resumption of "low-risk business" that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced last week.

The death toll has been below 100 for four days in a row, and the number of new cases is way off the peak on 30 March, when over 3,100 new cases were confirmed in a single day.

This marks a significant slowdown in the outbreak in the Islamic Republic, which has been among the worst-affected countries in the world.
