Powerful 6.0-Magnitude Quake Hits Northeast of Honduras - USGS

Central America, where Honduras is situated, is a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire characterised by high seismic activities. In 2018, the nation was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake.

A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck off the Honduran coast at 08:04:37 UTC, the United States Geological Survey reports. The USGS stated that the tremor occurred 55 kilometres north-northeast of Savannah Bight, Honduras, with its epicentre located in the Carribean Sea.

The tremor struck at a depth of 10 kilometres in the sea. Other countries affected by the quake include Belize, Mexico, and Nicaragua.​​ There have been no reports so far of any damage incurred by the natural phenomenon.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre, there was "no significant threat" of a tsunami.
