Live Updates: Number of COVID-19 Cases Exceeds 1,919,000 Globally

According to the live-tracker by Johns Hopkins University, the number of COVID-19 infections has reached 1,919,913 globally, at least 119,666 people have died from the disease.

The United States is topping the global coronavirus tally with more than 581,600 cases and over 23,600 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University. Spain and Italy remain centres of COVID-19 spread in Europe, with over 170,000 and 159,500 cases registered, respectively.

A state of emergency has been declared in all US states due to COVID-19. The highest number of coronavirus infections has been registered in the state of New York - over 195,000 cases. The virus has hit major cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Philadelphia.

The COVID-19 toll in Turkey has grown by over 4,000 cases to a total of 61,049, including 1,296 fatalities, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Monday.

A total of 4,093 new cases have been confirmed over the past 24 hours and 98 people have died, Koca said on Twitter.

According to the update, 3,957 Turkish patients with COVID-19 have recovered.

Greece has verified 31 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) over the past day, bringing the total to 2,145, including 99 fatalities, Health Ministry spokesman Sotiris Tsiodras said at a briefing on Monday.

According to the medical official, 73 Greek patients with COVID-19 are currently on ventilators and 16 have been discharged from the intensive care units.

One person has died from COVID-19 in Greece over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 99, Tsiodras said.

The United Nations has recorded at least 189 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) among its personnel, including three fatalities, UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a press briefing on Monday.

"As of Sunday evening, there were 189 confirmed cases among the UN worldwide, and that included three deaths in the UN system that have happened since the start of the pandemic", Haq said.

The number of people infected with the new coronavirus in Serbia has grown by 424 to a total of 4,054 cases, including 85 fatalities, the Serbian government said on Monday.

According to the government's update, posted on Twitter, 20,958 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Serbia, as of 3 p.m. (16:00 GMT) on Monday.

The latest situation update from the Serbian health ministry on Sunday stated 3,630 cases, including 80 fatalities.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a video conference on the country's epidemiological situation in light of the coronavirus outbreak, and an international phone conversation on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"In the second half of the day, there will be talks on the sanitary-epidemiological situation in Russia, in a video conference format. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova will speak about the situation in the country in general, and [Moscow Mayor Sergei] Sobyanin will speak about Moscow. They will also exchange opinions and compare positions on the coronavirus response", Peskov told reporters, when asked about Putin's plans.

"The president plans to hold an international phone conversation today", Peskov added.

MOSCOW, April 13 (Sputnik) - Russia has registered 2,558 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, with the total count growing to 18,328, the country's coronavirus response centre said on Monday.

"Over the past 24 hours, Russia has confirmed 2,558 COVID-19 cases in 62 regions... Russia has registered 18,328 cases of coronavirus infection in 82 regions, with a 16.2 percent increase [over the past 24 hours]", the statement read.

Of the new cases, 1,355 were registered in Moscow, 495 in the Moscow Region, and 121 in St. Petersburg.
The death toll has increased by 18 to 148 over the past 24 hours.

A total of 179 people have recovered from the coronavirus and been discharged from hospitals across Russia over the past 24 hours, the centre said, adding that the total number of recoveries has reached 1,470.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Over 1.3 million tests to detect the coronavirus have been conducted in Russia so far, with 141,000 people remaining under medical observation due to suspicions of being infected, the country's consumer rights watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, said on Monday.

"Over 1.3 million tests for the coronavirus have been conducted in the Russian Federation. As many as 141,000 people remain under medical observation, Rospotrebnadzpor said in a statement.

Russia has confirmed 15,770 coronavirus cases so far. The death toll currently stands at 130.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Brazil has detected more than 1,400 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people infected with COVID-19 in the country to 22,169, the Health Ministry said on Monday, adding that the coronavirus-related death toll had climbed to 1,223.

"The number of infected people is 22,169, [the number of] deaths is 1,223, the mortality rate is 5.5 percent”, the ministry wrote on Twitter.

The mortality rate increased by 0.1 percent from a day earlier, according to the official data.

In Brazil, the southeastern states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the most affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The number of Germany’s COVID-19 cases has grown by 2,537 over the past 24 hours to climb to 123,016, the Robert Koch Institute said on Monday.

The death toll also increased by 126 to 2,799, according to the country’s central institution for monitoring infectious diseases.

As many as 64,300 people in Germany have recovered from the coronavirus, the institute said, adding that 4,000 recoveries have been registered over the past 24 hours.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – The number of India's COVID-19 cases has increased from 8,356 to 9,152, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday.

The total count includes 7,978 people undergoing treatment, 856 recoveries, 308 fatalities, and one infected person who has left the country.

The largest share of cases — 1,985 — has been registered in the western state of Maharashtra, followed by the national capital territory of Delhi with 1,154 cases, the southern state of Tamil Nadu with 1,043 cases, and the northern state of Rajasthan with 804 cases.
