As of Friday, the total number of coronavirus cases worldwide reached 1,015,709, according to Johns Hopkins University with the total number of confirmed cases in the UK reaching 33,718 and nearly 3,000 fatalities.

UK Health Minister Matt Hancock stated on Friday that the peak of the UK's coronavirus outbreak will come in the next few weeks.

"The modelling suggests that that peak will be slightly sooner than previous, in the next few weeks but it is very, very sensitive to how many people follow the social distancing guidelines," Hancock told BBC radio.

At the same time, the official added that the peak depends on how people adhere to social distancing rules.

Earlier this day, the NHS Nightingale Hospital, capable of housing up to 4,000 people, opened its doors to coronavirus patients at the ExCel convention centre in London.

As of Friday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK reached 33,718 people with nearly 3,000 fatalities, while more than 1 million people have been infected worldwide, with about 53,000 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), almost 5,000 people have died of the disease worldwide within the past 24 hours.
