Mr Tedros also said that the World Health Organisation will support countries to maintain vaccinations against polio and other diseases.

The World Health Organisation's chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called on all countries to remove financial barriers during the pandemic and also to consider direct payments to the most vulnerable households. 

Mr Tedros also said that the WHO will support countries to continue vaccinations against polio and other diseases.

In a separate development, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, has repeated a joint call with the World Bank for debt relief for the poorest countries.
