Hungary has registered 447 cases of the novel coronavirus, with 39 new cases in the past 24 hours. The total death toll currently stands at 15 people.

Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros on Monday said that his Open Society Foundations will contribute 1 million euros to Hungary in an effort to help the country combat the spread of the coronavirus, Reuters reported citing a statement by the magnate.

The statement said that the coronavirus "knows no boundaries, not between countries, communities, religions or people".

"Anyone can become infected, but some of us are more vulnerable than others”, the statement read. "I was born in Budapest, in the middle of the Great Depression, barely a decade after the Spanish Flu left thousands of dead in Budapest. I lived through World War II, the Arrow Cross rule, and the siege in the city. I remember what it is like to live in extreme circumstances”.

The coronavirus has been spreading across the globe infecting more and more people in almost every nation, including Hungary.

The East European nation has reported 447 cases and 15 fatalities, while the number of recovered patients stands at 34.
