UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will warn Brits in a letter in the coming week that the situation in the country will only get worse after the number of those who've perished from the coronavirus in the country spiked to over 1,000 in recent days.

He will urge 30 million households "to stay at home and save lives", and will say that further restrictions could be implemented if necessary.

Outside China, the worst-hit countries are the United States, Italy, and Spain.

Over 990 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Mexico, Four New Fatalities Reported - Health Official

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Mexico is approaching 1,000 with four COVID-19 fatalities having been confirmed in the past 24 hours, Ricardo Cortes, Director General of Health Promotion, said.

The total death toll from the coronavirus in Mexico is 20, while the total number of confirmed cases is 993, Cortes said at a regular press briefing on Sunday. The day before, the death toll was 16.

Mexico has called on its residents to self-isolate for the next 30 days, minimizing social contacts with the exception of basic needs.

New Zealand Confirms 76 New COVID-19 Cases, Taking Overall Total to 589 – Health Official

New Zealand’s Ministry of Health has confirmed 76 new cases of COVID-19, raising the overall total of confirmed and probable cases since the start of the outbreak to 589, a leading health official confirmed during a press briefing on Monday.

“So today there are 76 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand, one of our formerly probable cases has now been confirmed as having COVID-19,” Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said.

The leading health official confirmed that the death toll still stands at one after the first coronavirus-related death in the country was announced on Sunday.

“There have been no additional COVID-19 deaths and 63 people have recovered from COVID-19,” Bloomfield remarked.

Speaking in turn, New Zealand Commissioner of Police Mike Bush stated that three people have been arrested for violating new social distancing rules aimed at curbing the spread of the disease.

“We have, over the last few days, had cause to arrest three people for persistent breaches,” Bush stated.

China Reports 31 New COVID-19 Cases, Down From 45 The Day Before - Health Commission

China has registered only 31 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, all but one of them imported; over 320 people have recovered from COVID-19 in China in the past 24 hours, the country’s National Health Commission informs.

The day before, there were 45 new coronavirus cases in mainland China, 44 of them imported.

The total death toll from COVID-19 in mainland China now stands at 3,304, while the total number of coronavirus cases in the country is 81,470, according to the health commission. A total of 75,770 people have recovered.

Czech Republic Could Extend Mandatory Self-Isolation Until 8 April - Health Minister

The Czech government will consider extending mandatory self-isolation in the country on Monday, Health Minister Adam Vojtech announced in a TV address.

On 15 March, the Czech government banned the free movement of people in the country, except if going to a grocery store or pharmacy, to work, or a medical institution. The measure was intended to last until March 24 and was later extended until 1 April.

"The government will discuss the extension of the quarantine for one week, until 8 April," Vojtech said on Sunday.

According to the health minister, there are over 2,770 confirmed coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic; 16 people have died from COVID-19 and 11 have recovered. Over 40,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted.

Vojtech predicted that an improvement in the coronavirus situation in the Czech Republic could come after the Easter holidays, around 13 April.

Number of COVID-19 Cases in Israel Surges Past 4,000 As 382 New Positive Tests Confirmed

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Israel has surged past 4,000 after the country’s Ministry of Health reported 382 new cases since an update on Sunday morning.

As of 21:00 local time on Sunday [19:00 GMT], the ministry has confirmed 4,247 cases of the disease. A total of 74 people remain in intensive care and 15 people have died in the country after contracting COVID-19.

The ministry also confirmed that 132 people have now fully recovered after testing positive for the disease.

The United Arab Emirates has registered 102 new COVID-19 cases over the past day, which brings the total to 570 cases, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention said on Sunday.

"The Ministry of Health and Prevention informs about registering 102 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)," the ministry said, adding that "the number of verified cases has reached 570."

According to the statement, 58 people have recovered.

France has confirmed 292 COVID-19 fatalities over the past 24 hours, with the death toll climbing to 2,606 in the country, Jerome Salomon, the head of France's public health service, said on Sunday.

According to Salomon, the total number of cases in France has reached 40,174, while "19,354 people with confirmed coronavirus were hospitalised".

More than 7,000 people in France have fully recovered from COVID-19, the official added.

COVID-19 Patient Dies in Russia’s Pskov Region - Health Authorities

A patient with COVID-19 died in Russia’s northwestern Pskov Region, the regional operational headquarters monitoring the coronavirus situation said on Sunday, adding that the patient had serious underlying health conditions.

"The head physician, Alexei Vasiliev, reported that a patient died a few hours ago from coronavirus. This is the first case of death in the region from this disease. The patient had severe lung diseases," the operational headquarters said.

Iran Temporarily Frees 100,000 Prisoners to Limit Spread of Coronavirus

A total of 100,000 inmates have been temporarily freed from Iranian prisons as of Sunday to stem the spread of the new coronavirus, a judiciary spokesman has said.

"As of now, around 100,000 have been released," Gholamhossein Esmaili said in a televised announcement.

President Hassan Rouhani ordered on Tuesday to extend the leave from prison until April 20. The number of those freed has doubled from 54,000 released in early March.

Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait Record Dozens of New Coronavirus Cases

Heath ministries of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait reported new cases of infection with the COVID-19 coronavirus on Sunday.

The Saudi health authority said 96 people had tested positive for the coronavirus over the past day, taking the total to 1,299. The virus has killed eight patients, while 66 have recovered.

The Iraqi ministry said its laboratories had confirmed 41 new cases, bringing the tally to 547. Of those, 143 have recovered and 42 have died.

In Kuwait, the number of people infected with the coronavirus climbed by 20 since Saturday to 255. Twelve people are in a critical condition and 67 have recovered, while further 1,231 are in quarantine. There have been no fatalities.

Number of Infected in Azerbaijan Surpasses 200

Azerbaijan has registered 27 new cases of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, which takes the total number of COVID-19 patients in the country to 209, the cabinet's emergency response team announced on Sunday.

"Twenty-seven new cases of coronavirus have been registered,” the response team said.

According to the health authorities, eight patients are in serious condition, and the rest are stable. Overall, 190 people are under medical supervision.
