This comes as the world marks the International Women's Day. In some countries, this is a day that celebrates womanhood, while in others this is an occasion to stage a protest against gender discrimination.

Women rights activists are holding an unauthorised march in Istanbul, Turkey, to condemn violence against women.

The event takes place on 8 March when the International Women's Day is being marked globally.

Last year, Turkish police had to use tear gas during a similar unauthorised rally because the organisers had violated the municipality ban on demonstrations.
