The Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier is a heavy Russian aircraft cruiser serving as the Russian Navy flagship. The carrier was first launched in 1985 and its initial name was Riga.

A fire broke out on the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft-carrying cruiser, stationed at a dock in Murmansk, a representative for the local emergency services said on Thursday. According to initial reports, three people were injured and two members of the crew are missing.

Eight firefighting units have been dispatched to the scene.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for Shiprepairing Centre Zvyozdochka Evgeny Gladyshev said that the fire was caused by welding operations in the first power room of the vessel. However, he did not confirm whether any members of the ship's crew were injured or is missing as a result of the incident.

"The fire aboard the vessel has been localised. There is no open combustion. Clouds of white smoke erupt on the deck, which should indicate that there is no open combustion. The temperature in adjacent compartments does not exceed the permissible level," the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Alexei Rakhmanov, said.

He added that there were no workers who had been conducting the repairs among those injured or missing.

Number of Injured in Fire Rises to Six, One in Serious Condition

The number of people injured as a result of the fire at Russia's Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier has increased to six, and one of them is in critical condition, a representative of the regional emergency services said on Thursday.

"The number of injured people has climbed to six, and one of them is in critical condition," the representative said.
