Live Updates: Situation in Syria as Turkey Halts Offensive Under Russia-Brokered Deal

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin reached a deal to pull the Kurdish fighters back and establish joint patrols in the operation zone in northeastern Syria along the Turkish border.

The United States and Turkey on 17 October reached an agreement on a 120-hour ceasefire in northeasterrn Syria to allow for the withdrawal of Kurdish fighters.

As the five-day ceasefire came to an end, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin reached a deal late on Tuesday to pull the Kurdish fighters back and establish joint patrols in the operation zone in northeastern Syria along the Turkish border.

On 9 October, Turkey launched Operation Peace Spring in northeastern Syria to clear the area of Kurdish militia seeking autonomy.

Russian Defenсe Ministry Denies Information on Escalation of Situation in Northern Syria

Information about the escalation of the situation and clashes between the government and pro-Turkish forces in the Syrian province of al-Hasakah is false, Maj. Gen. Alexey Bakin, the head of the Russian centre for Syrian reconciliation, said at a press briefing on Friday.

"Reports by some foreign media on the aggravation of the situation and clashes between government forces and pro-Turkish forces in the area of ​​Tell Tamer in Hasakah province are not true," Bakin said.

He added that the Syrian army's deployment of units continued on the contact line with the Turkish armed forces. The reconciliation centre is monitoring the situation, which is currently characterized as stable.

Syrian Troops Foil Militant Plot to Lay Mines on Aid Route – Military

Syrian government forces killed a militant sabotage group that tried to lay mines on a road in western Hama province used by humanitarian convoys, the Russian Defence Ministry said Friday.

"Syrian government forces liquidated a militant sabotage group north of the town of Morek who wanted to mine a road used to transport food and relief aid," Maj. Gen. Alexei Bakin said in a statement.

Additionally, militants from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terror group (banned in Russia) were repelled when they tried to overrun government troop positions near the northwestern town of Kabanah in Latakia province.

Rights of All Parties are Respected Under Putin-Erdogan Memorandum, Including Kurds - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed that the rights of all the parties complying with the recently signed Moscow-Ankara memorandum for easing tensions in Syria's northeast will be respected.

"As for the implementation of the memorandum, approved by [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin and [Turkish] President [Recep Tayyip] Erdogan in Sochi on 22 October, rights of all the parties that fulfill the reached agreements will be certainly respected. I will remind you that the Russian-Turkish agreements have been supported and approved by [Syrian] President [Bashar] Assad and the leader of the Kurdish People's Protection Units," Lavrov said on Friday at a press conference, held after talks with Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide.
