This is not the first time the aircraft of this type have approached the Russian border. In March, a B-52H performed a simulated bombing of a Russian naval base in the Baltic Sea, while two other bombers flew over the Kaliningrad region. The incident forced the Russian military to dispatch its fighter jets into the sky.

A Russian Su-27 fighter escorted a United States B-52H bomber that approached the Russian border on 19 October, the Russian Defence Ministry revealed on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the Russian jet was shadowing a US bomber at a distance of 70 kilometres before returning to its base in Crimea upon completion of the task.

According to Saturday's tweet by the monitoring site PlaneRadar, one of the aircraft carried out a bombing simulation near Crimea.

Russia has repeatedly condemned US military drills in the vicinity of the Russian border, saying that it creates additional tensions. The Russian Defence Ministry has urged Washington to refrain from such exercises; however, the Pentagon has rejected Moscow's calls.
