Osipova burst into tears in the court, asking to release her. In turn, her ex-husband Brian Mobley demanded from the court to give the mother of his two children a maximum prison term.
US District Judge Eric Melgren demanded the children’s return to the United States as a condition for Osipova's release from prison.
The prosecutor asked the judge to include the clause that Osipova will do everything possible to return her children to the United States in the verdict, and the judge agreed.

He did not take into account Osipova’s statement that she is unable to bring the children to the United States because now they are under Russian jurisdiction.
Later on Thursday, the Russian Consulate General in Houston called the sentence unfair and inhumane, stressing that the Russian diplomats will seek the appeal.
"Today, in the city of Wichita (Kansas), a trial in the case of the mother of three Bogdana Osipova, took place. She was sentenced to seven years in jail practically for asking her former husband to pay child support. We believe this sentence is unfair and inhumane. We will seek its reconsideration", the consulate general wrote on Twitter late on Thursday.
The consulate general also emphasized that Osipova-Mobley case is another blatant violation of Russian national's rights by the US Authorities.
"The case of B. Osipova is another case of the blatant violation of Russian nationals’ rights by the US authorities. The consulate general will continue closely monitoring the situation and will use all available opportunities for it", the consulate general pointed out.

After her spouse filed for divorce and accused his wife of taking their common child to Russia without his consent, a US court granted him full custody over the couple's two youngest children.
US authorities arrested Osipova in 2017 shortly after she returned to the United States in order to change child support arrangements.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in April that the children, now ages 4, 6 and 16, are living with their relatives in Kaliningrad. A Russian court ruled earlier that the children should remain in Russia. The father of the oldest son is reportedly not seeking custody of his child.
